Tate Modern, London

A couple of hours in the Tate Modern is a good way to do a fast forward through a spectrum of international modern art from Roy Lichenstein’s “Whaam” and Andy Warhol’s “Self Portrait” to Monet’s “Waterlilies”.

A couple of hours in the Tate Modern is a good way to do a fast forward through a spectrum of international modern art from Roy Lichenstein’s “Whaam” and Andy Warhol’s “Self Portrait” to Monet’s “Waterlilies”. Each wing on levels three and five is dedicated to a major art movement. Level Five encompasses Cubism, Futurism and Vorticism which all started in the early 20th century and Level Three contains over 70 paintings and sculptures by the surrealists and their associates, also from the beginning of the 20th century.

The permanent collections are free, but you will need to buy a ticket for the temporary exhibitions. You can wander around at your leisure or join one of the 45-minute tours which run four times a day to view collections with one of the gallery’s expert guides.

The gallery is definitely child-friendly and the Interactive Zone gives them plenty to do. There are hands-on games, films and multimedia activities as well as good old books. Budding artists can even visit Open Studio to create their own masterpiece.
