Cafè Landtmann was founded in 1873 by Franz Landtmann, an entrepreneur who came from a middle class Viennese family and that already valued a long tradition of cafes and pastry shops.

Although the property was changed more times than its foundation, the place always maintained its original name. Also the elegant atmosphere and the belle epoque doesn’t seem to be changed at all. Additionally, its proximity to the Burgtheatre and the University of Vienna, has always been a meeting place for the Viennese intellectuals.
It seems that the same Sigmund Freud loved to spend his free time here in the most beautiful hall of Cafè Landtmann.
