A traditional Georgian pub, once a favourite of Charles Dickens. In the early 19th century, it staged bare-knuckle fights and was known as The Bucket of Blood. 

It is first mentioned in 1772, when it was known as The Cooper’s Arms.Besides having an interesting history it also serves up deliciously traditional pub food using fresh ingredients.

For starters try the Black Cab Stout Rarebit, red onion marmalade (£4.50) or the Curried sweet potato soup, coriander crème fraiche (£5.00). As for mains, try the 35 day aged Rib Eye Steak, field mushroom, chips, baby gem & herb salad (£17.50) or Fish & Chips, frontier beer batter, chips, mushy peas & tartare sauce (£13.00). Snacks include a hearty Club Sandwich with grilled chicken, Mrs Howlon's bacon, tomato, lettuce & mayonnaise (£8.75) and for puddings, don’t miss the Vintage Ale Sticky Toffee Pudding, Fuller’s vanilla ice cream (£5.50 ).
