Arrábida bridge, Porto

The Arrábida Bridge is an arch bridge of reinforced concrete, that carries six lanes of traffic over the Douro River, between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, in Norte region of Portugal. Its structure is made with metal and concrete.

In March 1952, a preliminary project for a road bridge was awarded to Professor Edgar António Mesquita Cardoso.
The construction of the bridge continued in May 1957.
On June 22, 1963 the bridge was concluded and inaugurated. At the time of its completion, the main arch of the 270-meter (890-foot) bridge was the longest of any other in the world.
As of June 24, 2016, a tourist experience allows pedestrians to cross the arch; it is an idea of Pedro Pardinhas, who has invested 50,000 euros for the purchase of safety equipment and the creation of a small annex that is configured as a reception room for "Porto Bridge Climb".
