The Crescent Arts Centre has been a valuable cross-community arts space since 1980, and is based in a beautiful Victorian building in the Botanic area of the city.
Built in 1873, the Crescent Arts Centre building hasn’t always been an artistic space. It used to be a girls’ grammar school, which then moved to another site when it needed more space to expand. The Crescent was founded shortly after the school moved out, in 1980. It offers events and classes for visitors interested in language-learning, art classes, dance workshops and music lessons, as well as one-off events and apprenticeships for creatives. The Crescent also hosts the annual Belfast Book Festival and the City Dance festival.
