St. Anna's Pedestrian Tunnel, Antwerp

A tunnel connecting both the two sides of the city across the river.

Running underneath the River Scheldt, which runs through the middle of Antwerp, is a 572 metre tunnel used by pedestrians and cyclists to cross from one side of the city to the other.

Though the city dwellers decided to connect the left and right sides of the city way back in 1874, it  wasn’t until 1931 that building started.

Don’t miss the wooden escalators, a real novelty when they were built in the 1930s.
