The Grand Place is Brussels central square and is considered as one of the most beautiful squares in the world, UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998.
Best known for its ornemental richness, the square is bordered by the city hall, the corporation houses and La maison du roi.
Many major event from the Belgian history took place at Grand place: from the beheadings and bombings of the past, to current cultural events that are organised here, such as the 'Tapis de Fleurs' (literally Carpet of Flowers) and the 'Ommegang' (a historical re-enactment).
