The Akademie der Künste (Academy of Arts) was originally founded in 1696 as an academic institution for intellectual exchange among artists and scholars. 

Having been separated into two different academies during the Cold War, today it serves as one with its head office at Pariser Platz in its modern glass building where it represents six art disciplines: architecture, music, literature, performing arts, film and media.
