Top Markets in Zagreb

Among the colourful Croatian capital of Zagreb’s great heritage, markets hold a special place. They are the heart and soul of the community, fostering bonds and showing the city's dynamics. In this article, we invite you to discover the unique identity and local flavours of Zagreb.

1. Market Dolac

This bustling market which is both the largest and oldest, is hidden under numerous traditional red umbrellas. It welcomes visitors near the main square of the city.

Dating back to 1930, the Dolac market is open every day and offers locally grown and produced goods from Croatia.

As you go in, you are greeted by beautiful flower stands full of colours and floral scents. On the ground floor, you will find a fish market, butcher shops, bakeries, and cheese vendors. Upstairs, on the square, you can explore a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and souvenirs.

2. British Market (Britanski Trg Market)

British Market (Britanski) offers fresh fare on weekdays, books on Thursdays and all types of treasures and vintage goods on Sundays.

British Square (Britanski Trg) is a very dynamic place that hosts the renowned British Market. During weekdays it offers fresh fruits, vegetables and other homemade Croatian goods. On Thursdays, it transforms into a book market which offers not only Croatian authors but internationals as well. And on Sundays, it becomes a flea and antique market.

3. Kvatrić

Kvatrić is a very local food market that is mostly visited by the city's residents, who consider it the go-to destination for buying fresh produce.

Though smaller in size than other markets, Kvatrić still attracts locals who are interested in fresh and affordable products. While it was initially intended to have a place in the renewed part of the Kvaternik Square, where only flowers are currently being sold, it is very close by. The old-fashioned red umbrellas are seen from afar. Here, you can find homegrown fruits and vegetables, meat and flowers and enjoy bargaining with the vendors.

Address: Šubićeva ul. 40a

How to get there?

All the markets are located in front of the tram stations so you won’t miss them.

Tips for Market visits:

1. Carry cash: many vendors may not accept credit cards, so it's wise to have cash on hand.

2. Interact with vendors: start conversations with vendors to discover details about the origin of food products or the unique stories behind vintage items you're interested in buying. It adds depth to your shopping experience.

Enjoy your stay in Zagreb!
