Procacci, Florence

Low-hanging brass lamps, with floor to ceiling shelves crammed with beautifully packaged gastronomic goodies; the interior reminds one of classy perfumery.

This mouth and eye watering traditional gastronomic Florentine eatery has survived the invasion of the Via Tornabuoni by the Channels and Vuittons of this world and continues to supply outstanding regional specialities to discerning gastronomes. Not far from the Piazza della Repubblica and the Cattedrale di santa maria del Fiore (The Duomo), it’s a hop, skip and a jump from the major attractions.

It dates back to 1885, when Leopoldo Procacci opened. It quickly gained an excellent reputation for its gastronomic delicacies made with truffles. King Vittorio Emanuele II made it an official supplier to the royal family, granting its founder, Leopoldo Procacci, the right to include the royal coat of arms on his logo. Savoring these specialties continues to be a popular ritual both with Florentines and visitors. The only other places which you’ll find Procacci is in Vienna and Milan, so make hay while the sun shines.
