The Church of Santa Trinita is a must see site in Florence!
Originally commissioned by Vallombrosan Benedictine monks, the Church of Santa Trinita was built in a Romanesque style in the 11th century. It was property of the Strozzi family and then passed into the hands of the Medici family. The church is enriched by art divided up into its many chapels.
Of all the chapels, the Sassetti Chapel is the most important. This beautiful chapel contains works by Ghirlandaio. Located in the center is a painting called “The Adoration by the Shepherds” which portrays the birth of Jesus. Some of the frescoes here have members of the Sassetti family painted in them to represent their power and wealth. Another marvelous piece is the “Stories of St. Francis” which depicts a miracle associated with St. Francis.
The Church of Santa Trinita has many more chapels to discover! The artwork will take you back in time into ancient history.
