Santa Maria del Carmine, Florence

The Santa Maria del Carmine Church is most famous for its Branacci and Corsini Chapel.

The Santa Maria del Carmine Church is most famous for its Branacci and Corsini Chapel.  Due to a fire in 1771, most of the church was destroyed but the chapels survived it.  The church was reconstructed in 1782 in a Rococo style after the fire.

The Branacci Chapel houses frescoes made by Masolino and Masaccio.  Wealthy merchant, Felice Branacci, commissioned these artists in 1425 to begin work on the chapel.  The majority of their work focuses on St. Peter and events in his life.

The Corsini Chapel was built by one of the richest Florentine families of the 17th and 18th centuries.  The chapel was built in 1675 to house the remains of an important family member, St. Andrea Corsini.  Built in the Baroque style, there are many reliefs by Foggini portraying St. Andrea Corsini in battle.

Santa Maria del Carmine Church is truly a beautiful church with frescoes and sculptures found in the chapels.
