Winding alongside the Côte d'Azur, the promenade is lined with sandy beaches, smart hotels and classy boutiques.
The promenade was born in the second half of the 19th-century, although its current image owes more to the 1960s when it was given its face lift. Its name comes from the cross that once stood at the headland between Cannes and the Bay of Golfe-Juan, which attracted many pilgrims.
Today you’ll find the likes of Chanel and Louis Vuitton dotted amongst five-star hotels, the oldest of which - Le Grand Hotel - is as old as the promenade itself. Much of La Croisette’s fame comes from the Palais des Festivals, where the Cannes Film Festival is hosted every year. The festival sees a red carpet stretched along the promenade, but for something more laid back, the summer months promise a variety of music concerts, open-air events and fun fairs.
