A relaxed and multi-purpose art gallery, shop, café and cocktail bar that covers all bases.
Just around the corner from the Güell Palace in the charming El Raval neighbourhood of Barcelona, is Miscelanea. The space is divided into three physical zones: the gallery which is the principal space, the gift-shop downstairs, and the café/bar upstairs. Miscelanea can also be divided into numerous different disciplines: exhibitions (they launch 10-15 shows a year by local and international artists), small live musical and audiovisual events, creative courses and workshops, studio space, and the shop which sells original artwork as well as books, clothes, artistic accessories and lots of nice little things.
Although these different components may seem unrelated (hence the name), Miscelanea’s aim is to “bring contemporary creation closer to the public.” Moving away from the oppressive silence of traditional art galleries, they play upbeat music and provide a laid-back and democratic environment which brings together art, design, audiovisual creation, food, artists and art enthusiasts.
