This is another of Palladio’s villas, designed in 1551 as Giorgio Cornaro’s suburban residence. Giorgio was the youngest son of a wealthy Venetian family who were patricians in the Republic of Venice. Giorgio was the Procurator of San Marco (the second most prestigious title) and his sister, Catherine Cornaro, was Queen of Cyprus.
The thin bit of land it was built on meant that designing the villa was a challenge. Whilst visiting the villas, you will notice that Palladio built this villa upwards rather than outwards, unlike his other villas.
