Although some of the walls have begun to crumble over the centuries, Carpineti Castle is no less imposing for it.
Stand in the central courtyard and survey the partial remains of the trapeze-shaped outer walls, the looming south entrance tower and the original internal staircases which provided access to the castle’s upper floors. Due to excavation work in the late 20th-century, you can now view the remains of the chapel with its original flooring, and climb up the restored staircase in the castle keep to be able to enjoy the views of the Tesinaro and Secchia valleys below.
