Watching over the city, Conversano Castle was built in 1054 by the Normans as a fortress, and turned into a noble’s residence in the 15th century by the ruling Acquaviva family. Imagine life as a medieval nobleman as you explore the state rooms where the family entertained guests. Saunter onto the balconies to look out over the castle courtyard, and see the wedding chamber where Giangirolamo II Acquaviva d'Aragona married Countess Isabella Filomarino in 1622. There is also a treasure trove of 17th century art in the Municipal Art Gallery in the castle, including paintings of the Old Testament by Conversano native Paolo Finoglio.
