Built in 1230, Trani Castle was reconstructed in the 16th century and is one of 200 castles in Puglia that were commissioned by Frederik II of Swabia. It has a turbulent history, but it has recently been restored and now acts as a symbol of Puglia’s prosperous 13th century. Immerse yourself in a piece of medieval history, and enjoy views of the sparkling Adriatic Sea whilst exploring art exhibitions and watching performances that are held here. A highlight is the annual re-enactment of Frederick’s son Manfred’s marriage to Helen of Epirus which takes place in early August.
