The recently restored Martine Franca Ducal Palace gives you a glimpse of how the nobility lived in late-medieval times.

The recently restored Martine Franca Ducal Palace gives you a glimpse of how the nobility lived in late-medieval times. The palace was built in 1688 on the site of a 12th century castle by the 8th Duke of Martina Petracone V Caracciolo. Look out for his inscription on the architraves above the main door as you admire the carved stone facades. The building is the wonderful result of the combination of the work of local craftsmen, local materials, and the influence of the Salento area. There are 300 rooms, including chapels, a court, and a library. Every room has colourful ‘fresco’ paintings by Domenico Carella on the walls, which show biblical scenes and life in medieval Puglia. Today, the building is used as town hall offices and part of it has become a musical and artistic centre.
