Naval Museum, Istanbul

The largest maritime museum in Turkey, the Naval Museum has around 20,000 works in its collection.

The Istanbul Naval Museum, which is affiliated with the Naval Forces Command, was the first military museum established in Turkey. In 1961, the museum was moved to its current location in Beşiktaş Pier Square, next to the monument and tomb of Turkish Admiral Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha.

The main exhibition building has three floors covering  an area of 1500 m2. The four big halls and 17 rooms in the building were used as exhibition areas, and the halls were given the  names of the wind directions.  In the museum, royal boats, navy clothes, manuscripts, ship models, banners, maps,  paintings, monograms and crests, galleys, navigational instruments, ship chief figures and weapons are on show.
