Park Maksimir, a vast green oasis in Zagreb, seamlessly blends forests, meadows, and five serene lakes that are home to numerous turtles.
Just a short, five-minute stroll from the tram stop "Park Maksimir" is one of the biggest, greenest areas in Zagreb. Explore 316 hectares of both forest and meadow which includes five lakes and unique animals around.
You'll find two large lakes and three smaller ones in the park. Each lake has its own eye-catching beauty, some are tucked away among the trees, others offer a captivating view of the mountains. Don’t miss the turtles sunbathing in the shallow water.
Dating back to the 17th century, this park was the first public park in Southeastern Europe and includes the Maksimir Belvedere - the central building of the park, the Pavilion of Echos, the Swiss House and the Zagreb Zoo.
To avoid the crowds, go on a weekday if you can and take the side entrance to dodge the zoo-goers.
