Founded in 1907 by the Brethren of the Croatian Dragon Society, the museum offers a captivating journey around several floors and historical periods. Its unique approach combines both chronological and thematic perspectives, allowing you to gradually explore the history of Zagreb. Starting from prehistoric times, with recent discoveries beneath the museum building itself, the exhibits provide a comprehensive understanding of the city's evolution up to the present day.

The city is showcased from all sides: politics, religion, history, economics, business, town-planning and architecture, art and literature, entertainment, and everyday life, allowing you to unravel different aspects of Zagreb’s captivating story.

Note the evolution of some of Zagreb’s main sites such as the Cathedral and Saint Mark's Church which were damaged by the earthquake that hit Zagreb in March 2020 and still haven’t been restored.
