Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science (Botanički Vrt), Zagreb

Explore the blooming zone of Zagreb in the University's Botanical Garden.

The Botanical Garden of Zagreb was established in 1889, the first design and construction works started in 1890 and the first planting took place in 1892. The majority of the garden was designed and built in the English style, while the section located south of the greenhouse followed a precise and symmetrical French style. The ‘green’ part includes a lake which can be crossed by a bridge and there is an  alcove and exhibition pavilion - all wooden and painted red.

Between April and mid-September when everything is in bloom, the garden comes alive with a kaleidoscope of colours, featuring numerous iris, peonies, water lilies and roses. Notably, the captivating display of small flower beds showcasing water plants adds to the garden's allure.

The Botanical Garden is open to the public from spring to autumn. Entrance is free, during the school year, on Mondays and Tuesdays until mid-June and from the second week of September. It is closed on Easter Sunday and Monday, August 15 (Assumption Day), and November 1 (All Saints' Day).
