Chagall at work: Drawings, ceramics and sculptures, Exhibition, Centre Pompidou, Paris: October 4, 2023 – February 26, 2024

This is archived material. It is for reference purposes only.

The exhibition brings together a set of works which were donated to the  collection in 2022 thanks to the generosity of Bella and Meret Meyer.

One hundred and twenty-seven drawings, five ceramics and seven sculptures by Marc Chagall (1887-1985) are arranged  around three themes: the preparatory drawings for the costumes and stage curtains of the ballet "The Firebird" by Igor Stravinsky, the sketches and models for the decoration of the ceiling of the Opera Garnier  commissioned  in 1962, as well as a set of ceramics, collages and sculptures made between the 1950s and the dawn of the 1970s.

Typical of Marc Chagall's activity after the Second World War, these more  mature works show his investment in numerous commissioned projects and the diversification of his practice. They also allow you to take a look round his studio by showing the development of an entire project.
