Vincenzo Bellini's penultimate opera enters the Paris Opera's repertoire. To a libretto of tragic grandeur, the Sicilian composer brings Donizetti-like colours to this bel canto gem, combining elegiac abandon and romantic exuberance. Conducted by Mark Wigglesworth, Tamara Wilson lends her voice to the title role in a new production by Peter Sellars that sets the work in a steelwalled palace evoking the grip and scrutiny of a ruthless dictatorship
