Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves, Lisbon

An early 20th-century house turned museum.

In 1904, the painter José Malhoa built this art nouveau style house, but he moved away after his wife died in 1919. The property was eventually bought by Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves, a collector of art. When he died in 1965, Gonçalves left the house and his collection to be turned into a museum.

Explore the house and admire the collections of 19th and 20th-century Portuguese paintings, sculptures, and furniture.

Make sure you see the collection of Portuguese landscapes, including works by Silva Porto (1850 to 1893).
