Cross the marble-tiled bridge over the lake and follow the lawn-lined steps up to the mammoth Mausoleum, also known as the Monument of the Heroes. It was created during Romania’s Communist period and dedicated to the heroes of the struggle for communism. Just in front of it is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which was designed by Romanian sculptor Emil Wilhelm Becker to memorialise the 225,000 Romanians who died in the First World War. You can explore the winding side paths to discover the ‘Giants’ statues made by Romanian sculptors Dumitru Paciurea and Frederic Stork.
