Portland Basin Museum, Ashton-under-Lyne

This museum is within the restored 19th-century Ashton Canal Warehouse in Ashton-under-Lyne, combining a  modern interior with a canal side setting.

Inside is a reconstructed 1920s street, complete with the sights and sounds of Tameside in the 20s, with a kitchen and parlour for you to discover how the people of Tameside used to live. The museum tells the story of the industrial heritage of the area, from what life was like down the mines, to living and working on a farm, complete with the machines which were  used.
