The Brampton Museum, Newcastle-under-Lyme

Tucked away in Brampton Park, less than half a mile from the city centre, is the Newcastle-Under-Lyme Local History Museum, which showcases over 800 years of the borough's history.

Set in beautiful grounds, the museum and art gallery have something for everyone. As well as a programme of temporary exhibitions, there are galleries that depict the rich and diverse history of the area through these stunning collections.

Highlights include the Victorian street scene, where you can step back in time with the wares of Mellard's Hardware, the treasures of the Pawn Shop, the fascinating remedies of the Pharmacy and the gruesome collection of doctors' surgical instruments.

The toy gallery is a favourite with the little ones, but not only, with its 150 year old cuddly toys, dolls and games. This 1930s-40s house gives a glimpse of what life was like during the war.

The art gallery has a changing programme of exhibitions covering a wide range of interests, from works by well-known local and national artists to collecting exhibitions, craft fairs and a popular interactive family exhibition during the school summer holidays. It's a family museum, so you'll always find something to do, whether you're young or old!
