An emblem of French opera, just like Bizet's Carmen, Faust is a hybrid between a fantasy-romantic Grand Opéra and a comic opera.
Drawing on the myth popularised by Goethe, Gounod achieves a skilful balance between spectacular and intimate scenes, and offers us a multitude of highly inspired melodic pages engraved in the collective memory. Benjamin Bernheim returns to a role upon which he has already made his mark, under the baton of Thomas Hengelbrock and in a production by Tobias Kratzer.
