Leonard Bernstein's last opera, presented in a version reworked by Garth Edwin Sunderland, A Quiet Place combines genres - a pathos-filled family dispute contrasts with domestic comedy.
The score, infused with the spirit of American folklore, alternates between expressive opulence and intimate moments of infinite tenderness and poetry. This new production, by Krzysztof Warlikowski, brings together conductor Kent Nagano and baritone Gordon Bintner, specialists of the Sunderland version.
