Located to the northwest of Caen, near the Memorial, the Birds Hill is a vast 17-hectare landscaped park. Made up of a mosaic of gardens, it offers a superb panorama of the city.
A huge floral park of over 17 hectares in the heart of Caen. A place to go for a family walk. The Parc de la Colline aux Oiseaux, in Caen, was created on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Located on a former landfill site, it is a fine example of rehabilitation.
It is made up of numerous themed gardens (boxwood and yew labyrinth, perennials, flower trial gardens, etc.). Don't miss the superb rose garden with more than 15,000 roses including 570 varieties from the Middle Ages to the present day. Children will appreciate the playgrounds and the animal park where Norman species are king.
This green space is a real success since it has been transformed from a municipal dump into a superb floral world dedicated to peace. Since its creation, the park has been a place of experimentation and testing of environmental techniques with respectful gardening practices such as natural mulching, the use of auxiliary insects to limit aphids or weeding without phytosanitary products.
