Caernarfon Castle, Caernarfon

The original 11th-century motte-and-bailey castle was replaced with its current stone structure by King Edward I of England from 1283 onwards.

The Edwardian town and castle were the administrative centre of north Wales, which explains why the castle’s defences were built on such an immense scale.
