Picasso's sketchbooks are the focus of this exhibition at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.
The sketchbooks were for Picasso a kind of diary. In them he investigated and experimented to solve the problems inherent in his creative process. Such was the importance of the sketchbooks for the painter that in 1907 he wrote on the pages of one of them: "Je suis le cahier" (I am the notebook).
He never got rid of most of his notebooks, but kept them all his life in his collection. Of the 175 notebooks that Picasso filled with his drawings between 1894 and 1967, the Picasso Museum preserves 19, 17 of which come from the donation made by the artist in 1970 and correspond to the period of childhood and youth.
