The Saint-Clément aqueduct more commonly known as the Arceaux aqueduct, which stretches from the Gardens of Peru to Les Arceaux. It was built in the 18th-century to supply Montpellier with water thanks to the many beautiful fountains which grace the city.
The engineer Henri Pitot de Launay was called in 1754 to manage the project and was inspired by the Pont du Gard. The aqueduct connects the Saint-Clément source to the water tower on the Peyrou promenade over a distance of 14km.
Don’t miss the local market that takes place at the foot of the aqueduct every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. You can find fresh fruits, vegetables, cheese…etc, it’s the best way to get to know the gastronomy of France.
