Casa Noha, Matera

The perfect first stop in Matera, Casa Noha provides an interactive introduction to the city.

Tucked away in the Sassi,  in a home found within a cave,  this is an excellent place to start a trip to Matera, especially if you don’t have time to do much homework and don’t have a guide. There’s a very instructive 30-minute video, telling the history of the town (from the Stone Age to the present day) which is projected on the walls of three rooms. There are benches to sit on and earphones in several languages. In the summer the cool rooms provide a break from the sizzling outdoor heat.
