The Charles Square in Prague's New Town, one of the world's largest city squares, is a great place to relax while exploring the city.
At 66,300m², the Charles Square, founded in 1348 by Charles IV as the Prague New Town's main square, is one of the world's largest squares, and was medieval Europe's largest town square. It was named after its founder in 1848, being known as dobytčí trh (cattle market) prior to this. The majority of the square was turned into a park in the 1860s, when it was no longer used as a cattle market.
The square is now a key transport hub in the city, with its own metro station and numerous bus and tram lines. It houses a building of the Czech Technical University, the New Town Hall and the Church of St. Ignatius, considered the third greatest Jesuit complex in Europe.
